A new world, one where cultures and peoples are celebrated, where music is a joyous, experience, shared and appreciated by the diverse peoples of the world - in an urban society. Such an exchange recently took place in Vancouver. Not only was it a beautiful experience for all of the musicians, but also an inspiration for all who watched. In Music for a New World, the members of the Vancouver World Music Collective, gifted musicians, playing everything from ancient traditional music to jazz, Celtic, Latin, new music and contemporary songs collaborate to create one amazing world performance. This documentary follows the twelve composers who challenge themselves to create an intercultural musical work, combining cultures and musical styles from Asia, Africa, South America, the Middle East, Europe and Canada. Each step, the composers and musicians show a willingness to adapt traditions and reflect the new kind of urban society found in many cities around the world. The musical groups include:
