Tierra del Fuego was called ‘Land of Fire’ by Magellan’s crew when original inhabitants, the Selk'nam People began lighting fires to warn their fellow tribes that great trouble was on its way. This program outlines the history of the white man’s arrival and settlement of Tierra del Fuego and the terrible outcome for the native population: genocide. The Selk’nam People are now extinct.

Rare archival footage in this film provides visual information of the Selk'nam People as they existed. This well crafted and informative film may be the only source of such moving images of the Selk’nam available today.
